A good hijab is an investment. The difference between one that lasts six months and one that lasts six years is almost entirely in how you care for it. Here is our complete care guide for every fabric in the Lazia collection.
General Rules for Every Hijab
- Always check the care label before washing
- Wash darks and lights separately to prevent colour bleeding
- Never wring or twist — gently press out water
- Store folded or rolled, not hung (hanging stretches fabric over time)
- Keep away from direct sunlight when storing — colours fade
Jersey Hijabs
Jersey is the most low-maintenance fabric we carry. It was made for real life.
- Washing: Machine wash on a gentle/delicate cycle, cold water
- Detergent: Mild liquid detergent — avoid powder, which can leave residue
- Drying: Lay flat to dry or tumble dry on low. Avoid high heat
- Ironing: Usually not needed — jersey relaxes on its own. If needed, low heat only
- Pilling: If pilling appears after many washes, use a fabric shaver for a fresh look
Chiffon and Crinkle Hijabs
Chiffon is delicate but forgiving if you treat it right. The crinkle texture actually makes it more durable than plain chiffon.
- Washing: Hand wash in cold water, or machine wash in a mesh laundry bag on delicate
- Detergent: Gentle fabric wash or baby shampoo — seriously, it works beautifully
- Drying: Never tumble dry. Hang loosely or lay flat in shade
- Ironing: Crinkle chiffon does not need ironing — that is the beauty of it. Plain chiffon: cool iron only
- Tip: A light steam can refresh chiffon without washing it
Satin Hijabs
Satin rewards careful handling. Treat it well and it will look stunning for years.
- Washing: Hand wash only in cold water. Do not machine wash
- Detergent: Silk or satin-specific detergent. A small drop goes a long way
- Drying: Roll gently in a clean towel to remove excess water, then lay flat to dry in shade
- Ironing: Iron inside-out on the lowest setting, with a cloth between iron and fabric
- Tip: Avoid wearing satin when applying perfume or hairspray — the alcohol can damage the finish
Cotton Hijabs
Cotton is the most durable fabric we carry. It can handle regular washing without losing its shape.
- Washing: Machine wash warm (not hot). Cotton can handle it
- Detergent: Any standard detergent works fine
- Drying: Tumble dry medium or line dry. Cotton dries quickly
- Ironing: Iron while slightly damp on a medium setting for a crisp finish
- Tip: To keep colours bright, add a tablespoon of white vinegar to the rinse cycle
How to Store Your Hijabs
How you store your hijabs matters as much as how you wash them.
- Roll, do not fold sharply — reduces permanent crease lines
- Use a dedicated drawer or box — keeps them dust-free and organised
- Separate by fabric — prevent satin from snagging on jersey
- Avoid plastic bags — fabric needs to breathe
